Deposit Waivers for DV Survivors
Texas law mandates that electric utilities must waive security deposits for victims of family violence who present a certified waiver form from an authorized agency or medical professional.
Deferred Payment Plans
PUCT rules require your Retail Electric Provider to offer a payment plan before disconnecting your service. The initial payment cannot exceed 50% of the amount due, and you must be given at least five billing cycles to pay the balance.
Critical Care / Chronic Condition
If someone in your household depends on electric-powered life-sustaining medical equipment (oxygen concentrators, ventilators, dialysis machines, etc.), you can register for Critical Care status which provides extra protection against disconnection.
Extreme Weather Moratorium
The PUCT prohibits electric providers from disconnecting residential customers for non-payment during extreme weather events, including when a heat advisory is issued or when temperatures drop below 32°F. These protections apply automatically.
